Left Brain controls the data collection, structural and forensic investigation parts of our thinking. These are incredibly strong skills that help education settings thrive. Information comes in, data can be tracked and a wealth of performance examples can be collected and analysed to ensure learning is optimum. Great stuff.
However, it is the right side of the brain that is responsible for creativity, ‘leaps in the dark’ thinking, emotional connectivity and a ‘tempering’ of evidence by asking for the story behind it, the context if you will. When a learning environment concentrates on left brain to the detriment or repression of right brain thinking an inhumane, clinical and oppressive environment can be created.
Obviously, this is a continuum of thinking depending on which kind happens and how often. What kind of place do you work in?
